What Is a Right-of-Occupancy Home?

When living in a right-of-occupancy home, you pay part of the property’s purchase value as a right-of-occupancy fee and a monthly usage charge. In return, you receive a permanent right to live in the home, but you do not own the property. Applying for a right-of-occupancy home requires an official queue number issued by Varke (the Centre for State Supported Housing Construction).

A right-of-occupancy home provides a secure and long-term housing solution without requiring a large mortgage or purchasing your own home. You can live in a right-of-occupancy home for as long as you wish, provided that the monthly usage charge is paid and the terms of the right-of-occupancy agreement are fulfilled. The amount of the usage charge varies depending on the property, apartment size, and location.

You can apply for a right-of-occupancy home using a queue number issued by Varke. The queue number determines the priority order of applicants when homes are offered. After receiving your queue number, you can search for a suitable right-of-occupancy home and submit an application for a property that interests you. The application requires information such as your contact details, queue number, and the apartment or area you are applying for.

When you give up your right-of-occupancy home, the right-of-occupancy fee will be refunded according to the terms of the agreement and adjusted based on the building cost index.
