Moving In

Welcome to your new home! You can find the most important move-in instructions below.

Things to Remember When Moving

Moving into a new home is an exciting milestone that often brings new opportunities, a new neighbourhood, and a fresh start. To help make your move as smooth as possible, we have gathered important move-in instructions and information for new tenants below. When moving into your new rental apartment, please remember to:

  • Arrange or update your home insurance
  • Check your smoke alarms
  • Set up your electricity contract
  • Submit your change of address notifications
  • Complete the apartment inspection form
  • Recycle your moving waste correctly

If your building has a Tenant Portal or Tenant App, you will find up-to-date information about your tenancy and building services there. You can also find important resident information on your building's notice board.

Key Collection

Keys can be collected from the designated locksmith on the start date of your tenancy or right of occupancy. Please remember to bring your photo ID, tenancy agreement and proof of payment of your security deposit when collecting your keys. In some cases, you may also be asked to present proof of valid home insurance.

If someone else is collecting the keys on your behalf, they must present a signed authorisation letter (power of attorney). The use of an authorisation letter must be agreed separately with the landlord or property manager. Please read the instructions included in your move-in letter carefully.

Home Insurance

Protect your belongings and prepare for unexpected situations by taking out comprehensive home insurance with the insurance provider of your choice.

If you already have home insurance, remember to update your policy with your new address before moving. Please note that your tenancy agreement requires you to maintain valid home insurance throughout your tenancy.

Smoke Alarms

Remember to test your smoke alarms regularly to ensure they are functioning correctly. If you suspect that a smoke alarm is faulty, please contact your property's maintenance company without delay.

Electricity Contract

Arrange your electricity contract well in advance so that electricity is connected on your move-in day.

Move-In Notification to the Property Maintenance Company

Please notify your property's maintenance company when you move in. You can find the maintenance company's contact details on your building's notice board or in the Tenant Portal. Many maintenance companies also offer an online move-in notification form on their website.

The maintenance company will register you as a resident and update your name on your apartment door and the building directory. Submitting this notification is also important because the maintenance company can only provide emergency access using a master key if you are registered as a resident.

Official Change of Address

An official change of address notification is a legal requirement in Finland whenever you move. Keeping your address information up to date ensures that government authorities and postal services can reach you at your correct address.

You can submit your official change of address no earlier than one month before your moving date and no later than one week after moving. The notification should be submitted to both Posti and the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV).

Apartment Inspection Form

After moving in, you will receive an electronic apartment inspection form. Use this form to record any defects, damage or missing items that are already present in your apartment when you move in.

Completing the inspection form is important because it helps ensure that any issues are identified and repaired promptly. The completed form also provides a record of the apartment's condition when you move in and will be used as a reference during the move-out inspection and when your security deposit is returned.

If you experience any difficulties completing the form, please contact our Customer Service team.

Recycling

Moving often generates a considerable amount of waste. Please sort and recycle your moving waste correctly. Flatten cardboard boxes and cartons before placing them in the recycling containers so that they take up as little space as possible.
